Part-time Subpoena Review Personnel - Civil Actions Bureau - Specialized Discovery Section

General Description:

The Specialized Discovery Section of the Civil Actions Bureau is seeking part-time personnel to respond to subpoenas issued to CCSAO seeking CCSAO criminal prosecution files and records. This is a part-time non-union position and does not include benefits.

Working Environment & Reporting Structure:

Part-time personnel working in the Specialized Discovery Section must be able to work independently and conduct document review via electronic means. Part-time personnel will report to the Supervisor of the Specialized Discovery Section.

Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Review subpoenas and riders to determine what is being sought.
  • Request responsive CCSAO criminal prosecution files and records from appropriate CCSAO location.
  • Conduct a detailed review of responsive documents, evaluate for potential privileges, and mark for redactions where appropriate. (Note, responsive files reviewed are scanned and bates stamped PDFs of the CCSAO criminal file).
  • Prepare privilege logs where responsive documents are withheld due to privilege.
  • Engage with attorney who issued the subpoena to answer questions and resolve disputes over production.
  • Draft and/or handle initiating motions or responses concerning discovery disputes pertaining to CCSAO file productions.
  • Work cooperatively with members of the Unit, both ASAs and administrative staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current or prior license to practice law in Illinois. If your license to practice in IL is not current, please fill out the “Other License” section with the prior dates of your IL licensure.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in the practice of criminal law in Illinois
  • Comfort with technology or learning new technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior litigation experience or prior experience resolving discovery disputes
  • An understanding of criminal procedure
  • Familiarity with CCSAO prosecution files
