Level: Entry/Union/Full-Time

Location: 2650 S. California/Leighton Courthouse

Division/Unit: Transcription

Primary Function: Type detailed transcripts of electronically recorded evidence for the Assistant State’s Attorneys.

Working Environment: Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Physical Requirements:

Light Work: The position requires the ability to sit, stand or walk frequently, often for extended periods. You may need to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds regularly, and occasionally heavier items. The job may also involve a significant amount of sitting or standing relative to sedentary roles.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe interrogations from the Chicago Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, as well as transcribing body-worn camera footage and other electronically recorded video using Start/Stop sanction software
  • Transcribe accurate transcriptions of victim and witness interviews
  • Transcribe dash cam, phone and surveillance footage
  • Maintain transcript files
  • Provide typed transcripts of 911 calls, consensual overhear conversations and parole board hearings
  • Interacts regularly with State’s Attorney’s Office employees
  • Regular access to confidential information
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

Required:

  • The candidate must have excellent grammatical skills both oral and written.
  • The candidate must have the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • The candidate must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word applications required. 50 + wpm preferred.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Dictation
  • CRIMES and SharePoint preferred.
  • Typing speed of 50 + wpm
